About
Phun First Flag
Phun First Flag is a youth flag football league in Julian, as part of Free Thought Revolution's community action/activism programming for youth 5 to 17.
The foundation of the program at its core is the building of confidence, self-reliance, strength, and creating a diverse knowledge of healthy behaviors; for all those participating. PFFL has three concrete principals that direct every aspect of the organization, program, practices, and games. They are fundamental to PFFL's structural programing.
Philosophy:
1. Prioritizing and implementing a fun safe atmosphere
2. Creating and utilizing a respectful receptive; reciprocal teaching- learning relationship between coaches, athletes, and parents
3. Instructing and educating the athletes on the technical, disciplinary rules, and physical aspects of football; without the exposure to tackle football and the unnecessary injury risks for our children.

Keep community programs free
Free Thought Revolution's community programs are all free. From kid's hip hop dance classes, to summer art & technology programs, to flag football - help financial ability never be a barrier for families.

Coaching Philosophy and Mission Goals
Any individual can play football, but an individual that has been invested in personally, to create a healthy person: can play motivated football. Our purpose as coaches is to engage the athletes to create confident, purposeful, conscious individuals. Ready to take the lessons from the field and apply them of ; being positive contributions to society. We should be engaging the athletes mentally to create independent thinking and instill self-motivation. The sport or game is an allegory for lyfe; not the other way around. While working with the athletes coaches will lead and model behavior confirming the athlete's personal health, are the primary concern; with the team's success a distant second. The significance of an action and its long term ramifications are considered objectively,
thoroughly, and with the players' person as the unquestionable point of emphasis.
We coach with the purpose of building up amazing people; that are engaged football players.

Learn to Teach; Coach
As coaches, and especially coaches of a violent collision sport it is paramount that we first Learn, then Learn to Teach; and finally coach with reciprocal learning from the athletes. We are working with student-athletes, whether school education or responsible community engagement, ours will go home to parent(s)/ guardian. or other when practices and games conclude. We are here to provide them an opportunity for personal improvement, fun, comradery, safety, and wins!
The athletes have responsibilities outside of football; and far more important than football. A good number of the students do not have safe secure housing, it may include an abusive household, food insecurity, or any number of undue burdens. Before we engage in coaching we must learn from the kids and earn their respect and trust. The same investment we've taken in our personal accreditation, coaching studies,... and the like. It is imperative that we spend the same time learning the system(s), language, and communication keys to share with the team.
Using our knowledge of the system in combination with that of the athletes, and the best means of communication it will allow a cleaner delivery of new information allowing for better retention and confidence. We are coaching for wins, victories, and championships! Wins are built from knowledge, victories from confidence, and championships from intelligent self-assured individuals.
If we as coaches are to be - are to have- a successful season, it begins with investing in our players; "scrubs" just as much as our "stars". It is our job to compose a team of knowledgeable, confident, intelligent, self-assured student-athletes; failure in their performance; is failure in our teaching. You're only as strong as your weakest link.

______________________________
*Responsible Empathy
To lead one must first learn to follow. We are leading young sols many of whom have little experience with strong leaders, or positive role models. Our first in-step to reaching the athletes is by understanding what outside impacts they may have that are affecting their ability to fully excel. Investing in a responsible level of knowledge of each athlete's person will translate into an open rapport and allow for healthy boundaries while employing active leadership modeling.
*Constructive Building
As coaches, teachers, and leaders of young
impressionable student athletes it is a delicate balance between tearing down and building up. Honesty is essential in building up their skills level, knowledge, and
self-confidence. Positive constructive criticism will relay the necessary information about changes needing to be made while, at the same time giving the student athletes an understanding they can be built up even when making mistakes.
*Consistent Expectations
The expectations for coaches and student athletes is clearly defined in the student athlete contract, however; that is insufficient for the level of team commitment expected from our players. Football is a collision sport and due to this is prone to injuries. If we hold the student athletes to the tenets and culture we have defined, along with prepping them with the tools to accomplish we as a unit will be successful.
*Motivated Motivator
Motivation or mood can be influenced by quite a number of different things, and considering we are leading young pubescent teens the mixture of a wildly dynamic hormonal equilibrium, school, parents, home, work for some, and the rest of “normal lyfe” can cause a lack of motivation or the wrong motivating factors for healthy athletic performance. Incorporating the other principles of the coach’s cree, into how we motivate the athletes will help them properly resolve unhealthy stressors and utilize positive emotional expression while working towards goals. Motivating with positive measures will increase retention, ability, and most importantly our student athletes ability to have proper emotional processes beyond the sport.
*Clear Communicator
Expressing and utilizing concise clear language in communicating with the student-athletes is pivotal in relating the expectations of the football program. The confidence we as coaches have with the content and necessary information, will directly correlate to the productivity as individuals, group units, and overall as a unified team. Keeping a common stream of language builds mental repetition, informing their muscle memory, retention, and replication of the desired action. The respect, integrity, empathy, leadership, and emotion we communicate to them is what we should expect them to return upon us, and the community they engage with.
We must rise above so they too can be exemplary persons that also play football.
Biggest Cheerleader
Mentor - Coach - Role Model - Leader and most importantly we are the student-athletes Biggest Cheerleader.
Note that it is a combination of student & athlete. Our job is to grow young individuals in a sport for community, secondary educational access, attaining athletic skills/talents, and primary push them to be better learners. They are eligible to play if the classroom
is being attended to with the same vigor as the football practices we expect from them.
The more they excel in the classroom the better opportunity they will have at access to playing in a college setting. The better versed they are at retention & recall of information the higher an aptitude they will have as athletes, and individuals of their own accord.
We must cheerlead the best aspects of what will lead them to success outside of football, as well as football; because there should be an understanding they are individuals that are athletic footballers.
Chimera(defensive character)
The defense is named after the mythological animal that was created by joining two beasts into one body, one consciousness, one extremely dangerous maunster. The top reasons for the high level of danger was because of three distinct abilities:
❖ intellectual capacity to have strong forward thinking and processing
❖ uncompromising command of their full capabilities and appropriate
❖ utilization of power immutable commitment to growth, strength and knowledge; second only to the insatiable hunger for greatness.
On the field, we will give a full showcase of our continued growth, potential, & knowledge we've absorbed during practice including film, drills, study hall, classroom, and field; to embody Chimera.
Defensive Principles
Defensive Philosophy
We are not on defense, we are on offense; they are just holding the ball-for us!
~coach seth
Utilizing spatial awareness, a symbiotic reliance on teammates, high speed processing, and an untempered tenacity within the fields bounds; we will create a directed controlled chaos. In detail: the front box will engage in a wide variety of simple stunts and blitzes with the direct aim of disrupting any & all forms of offensive fluidity.
Through disciplined high-energy play moving offensive players off their mark and disallowing the QB, RBS, or 0L from feeling confident on the blocking scheme. Using high rotation coupled with variations on blitz, rush, & drop personnel. Forceful selfless understanding no single play, statistic, or act will win the game, but that; every selfless act of will plays pivotal role in our team victory.
A victory every play becomes a victory at the end of the game. The secondary will play a zone-man concept behind the front box to compliment and provide additional impact by: taking pride in interjecting themselves in stopping the running game, at the line of scrimmage or delectably behind it. Providing additional offensive confusion with blitzes and most importantly covering all fields of passing, Holding a passion for down field receiver disruption, an unparalleled desire to stick with the ball. Confidently playing with the knowledge that if we can execute the perfect game plan, the secondary will see a lot of passing plays; but very little passing.
Athletes as a whole that play in the Chimera understand the keys to success are mind, heart, body; in that order. We must use our
intelligence to put us in the right place. We must engage %110 percent with our heart. Our body is simply the conduit with which we express it. Doing these things will lead to success, many victories, and some wins.
Design
We are fast, smooth, and precise in our interjection of force. We are technical. disciplined, mentally prepared, and a fully connected self-reliant unit! The braggadocio, flashes of ego, individual displays, and superstar or diva dynamism does not exist! We ignore statistics, abhor "big plays", and fail to find individual reasons to cock and preen. We are an interconnected interdependent unit.
Just as your foot & brain, plus many other components of your body 'walk' , Chimera depends on our front for picks, our backs for sacks, and everything in between. As a whole unit we will shrink free access to the length of the field forcing offensive game play to stretch wide allowing our defensive unit to collect around the point of the play.
We will shrink the lanes for passing and overlap coverage in receding boxes. With an awareness of our own holes we have to overcome, we can utilize various means to move, alter, cover, and disguise it.

Player's Culture
Envision your dreams
Move with purpose
Embrace deserved success
There is such a thing as a winner and winner's attitude. What many people define as 'luck', is an individual that only sees victory. You, the individual athletes that compose the team are responsible for understanding what both are, and are expected to embody them. There are many ways to win: hard work, discipline, mental & physical practice, training, teamwork (even individual sport athletes hate a team supporting them), soaking in from others,...
Those that win consistently the G.O.A.Ts all have a number of distinctive key traits:
Uplifting those around them.
Put simply they make those around them better.
Drive to continuously improve their skills.
Whether it be mental, physical interpersonal, or other; they confront their misgivings and grow.
Personal health!
Nutrition makes the body move or stagnate, it feeds the brain which fires off the electrons to power the body. Nutrition is food, relationships, education, and physical. Keep it clean, balanced and strong!
Crazy dreamers
The greats get lost in a self-deluded reality where they are the baddest to ever do it, and there is no one else. Then they make the delusion reality, be crazy enough to make your reality!
When it's time to work they are working.
There is no outside noise - distractions - issues feedback. They arrive early to open, and leave late closing it down. Most importantly: if it ain't helping or improving then it isn't in their proximity.
Every day is a great day.
Every moment is a moment to rise above. Whether it is sickness, injury, officiating, poor sportsmanship, cheap play, or some other poppycock they compose themselves and conquer the odds.
Breathe!
They consistently remember the imperfection of humanity and themselves, so when faced with a mistake - error or straight boneheaded play they breathe, release, and get it back.
If we intend to be victorious, if we have hopes of being winners, if we hold dreams of being champions then we must learn to embody these characteristics and more in pursuit of being better people that are athletic winners. As a team of individuals and individuals of a team we will collectively
We are Made of Champions!
Winning Culture of Champions
There is no "l' in' team; however,' we represent the 'I' in 'win'. We will exemplify this as players and coaches by having a solid foundation with Discipline for our responsibilities, holding yourself accountable before others; and always a thirst for learning. I will trust in the other individuals that make up my team, as much as they can trust in me. Consistency driven by open - honest- respectful communication is the basis of our unity.
Edit our personal behaviour, in order to accomplish team goals In order to improve, learn, and grow I will show up excited to compete everyday. I will practice %10 harder as the day before, and leave %20 smarter every play. I will be better, to help US be better, for a stronger united WE. I will engage as a leader amongst my peers, teammates, and community!
I am imperfect, I will make mistakes. I will be better than I was in the next moment, snap, act. I alone am imperfect. I will learn from my mistakes, and improve my understanding. I can be imperfect, because with my team; we are perfect. We can together; because together we do!
Learn - Build - Engage -Dominate winning is a byproduct Wake up hungry, eat hungry, be full; be hungry! Hungry to learn the small steps that create the building blocks for success. When we have a body full of knowledge we can engage with intelligent foresight and dominate the air between every blade of grass.
We play hungry, to the best of our abilities, every. single. Breath.
